Spring Time Roof Cleaning
March 30th, 2010During the spring time it is a good idea to get down and probably dirty and do some much needed cleaning. After the winter season has passed you will notice fragments from your shingles and other debris caught in your eaves through. For the duration of the fall season you should pay extra close attention to your eaves through as fallen leaves and dirt will get clogged in your eaves through and also in your downspouts. If you don’t clean this from the fall season you risk damaging your property over the winter season through to spring with clogs. A very painless and complete way to clean your eaves is to carefully get up on a ladder or roof, hold a small bucket for debris and a brush for cleaning. Keep your hose within reach to wash the eaves.
First gather all the big debris by hand and discard into the bucket. Some debris will harden to your eaves, use the brush and scrub your eaves until it is removed. Once you are done take your hose and rinse the eaves down. Be careful not to let debris move down your downspout because this will clogg the main drainage. Do this every fall and spring season to keep you eaves working at optimal performance. Failure to do so can result in foundation leaks, damaged lawn, gardens, patio stone interlocking, etc. Clogged eaves can also fail and become dismantled from the roof structure by to much weight inside the eaves.
Be alert when cleaning the eaves and try not apply any downward force to your eaves because this will cause damage as well.
