Winter Holidays for the Carbon Minded Holiday Maker

March 2nd, 2009

Hundreds of keen snowboarders will presently be searching for their skiing gear and dashing forth hunting for the greatest snow conditions. And beyond any doubt the affect of your carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of vacation to dos as a xmas cracker after Christmas. Merely last year, a sluggish snowfall was in the tabloids and tourists were panic struck about the flakes of snow disappearing almost as soon as they put down.

Snowboarding company Chalet 1802, located at the base of Mount Blanc in Chamonix village in the Alps, is one of the first independent businesses to go carbon neutral and offer snowboarders an environmentally friendly choice whilst booking their skiing trip. Chalet1802 founder Cathmor stated: Last year was quite a surprise with the hottest winter in 60 yrs in the French Alps. Alpine resorts such as La Plagne, Le Grand-Bornand and Les Arcs suffered. It was balmy and the snow did not last so much of the early skiing season in the mountains was patchy. We selected to go carbon negative to assist in the preservation the snowboarding resort.

Cathmor said: We are not trying to dictate to punters but we believe it is all important to give the clients the option without augmenting the cost of the ski holiday. If the guest book with us and holidays in our skiing chalet they can further off-set their carbon output and we take in the extra prices. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub – guests require opulence but not at the expense of the environs, so we viewed methods of decreasing the affect of someone flying over here for a snowboarding holiday.”

The business have moreover partnered with charity Climate Care, which attacks climate change by making carbon dioxide reductions for individuals and firms.
