I think you will benefit from this story told by author Robert Hastings. Dr. Hastings is a native of Illinois and has written many books with stories which are as good as, or better than, this one. Enjoy.

Although Robert Koch proved to the world that diseases are transmitted by microbes or germs invisible to the human eye, it was the French chemist Louis Pasteur who discovered how to use weakened microbes to inoculate against all kinds of infectious diseases.

His first successes were with anthrax and chicken cholera. Next he turned to a search for the deadly virus of hydrophobia. But before he could develop a serum of weakened hydrophobia microbes, he must first find and isolate the killer virus.

To do this, it was necessary for Pasteur to experiment with dogs that were mad with rabies. In the lab he would stick his beard within inches of their fangs so as to suck froth into glass tubes. Using these specimens, obtained at such risk of life, he hunted the microbe of hydrophobia.

And succeed he did. But the serum had to be proven. The first subject was a nine-year-old boy by the name of Joseph Meister from Alsace. His mother came crying to Pasteur’s laboratory, leading her pitiful, whimpering, scared child, hardly able to walk from the fourteen gashes inflicted by a mad dog. ‘Save my little boy,’ she begged. It was the night of July 6, 1885, when Joseph became the first recipient of the weakened microbes of hydrophobia in human history. After fourteen inoculations, the boy went home to Alsace and had never a sign of the dreadful disease.

When there were a dozen other serious diseases whose microbes had not yet been found, why did Pasteur risk his life to experiment with the deadly hydrophobia?

The answer may be from his childhood. ‘I have always been haunted,’ he said, ‘by the cries of the victims of a mad wolf that came down the street of our town when I was a little boy.’

Interesting. Sometimes fear paralyzes us into useless inaction. But there are other times when fear can goad us into worthwhile action. Pasteur channeled his fear from childhood into a positive force that saved lives. Fear can be all consuming and destructive, but wise is the person who will conquer fear by directing it in a constructive way. Foolish is the person who allows his fear to immobilize him. Channel fear forward. Don’t internalize it. It can motivate you or stifle you. It’s always your choice.

Going Bald for Boys Can Be Awful

October 19th, 2008

Loss of hair in males affects approximately 10 million in the United Kingdom, the most common type of baldness is genetic male pattern baldness. The hair loss will probably develop as early as twenty one and cause emotional issues.

Male pattern baldness is frequently hereditary and will probably develop in lads as well as girls. The hair loss seems due to the hair follicles on the head shrinking and the hair falling out altogether. Baldness generally follows a balding pattern around the hair line and furthermore at the crown of your scalp.

Baldness is not a deadly virus and does not directly affect your actual health, although your emotional health can become affected through the feeling of being unhappy.

There are 3 magnificent main treatment methods for losing your hair, Minoxidil, Finasteride and Strand by Strand from Advanced Hair Studio, aka AHS. The very first big male pattern baldness treatment is a topical liquid that goes on the scalp and can be purchased from online pharmacies. The hair loss treatment Minoxidil works by slowing the speed of baldness, simply breathtaking. The second treatment works by stopping the conversion of the loss of hair hormone. The eye-opening Strand by Strand hair restoration technique from Advanced Hair Studio, aka AHS, uses the very latest hair restoration medical technology and involves new hair growing on the head strand by strand over time. With both the Minoxidil and Finasteride treatments they need to be regularly applied and taken for the effects to work. Explore the latest hair loss techniques from Advanced Hair Studio, home to hair restoration.

Home theater projector :the ultimate in home entertainment

October 17th, 2008

If you have been salivating for a true home theater experience a projector beats any of the new fangled television technologies any time.

Think about it , you can get images up to 120 inches whereas the largest plasmas or rear projection TVs are only 70 inches in diagonal length. Furthermore, these huge television cost an exorbitant amount ranging from $5000 to $10,000.

Compare them to budget projector models which sells for less than $1,500. Now’s really a good time to consider them. They used to cost many thousands of dollars and prices have since fallen.

Now the market is in favor of new projector technologies such as LCD projectors or DLP projectors which utilize compact digital image chips which have brighter light output than CRT technologies. Now there’s no need to completely see your movie in total darkness. A dimly lit room will do just as fine.

The older CRT technology were heavier at over 100 pounds. These new generation of projectors are compact and light. They weigh from 5 to 15 pounds. You can carry the lighter ones around. There’s no need to rush home to watch your live sports programme. You can just simply bring it wherever you are, for example in a friend’s house. A compact projector is a great idea if you have several houses since there’s no need to buy a projector for every home. One projector will do simply fine.

Their small size is a boon. They may either be placed on a coffee table or be mounted on a ceiling. Imagine the mammoth hulk of a projection TV taking up your previous living room space which otherwise could have been used in more better ways.

New projectors boast an array of connectivity options which regular television sets lack. You can hook it up to your PC enabling you to surf super sized web pages, watch slide show of your digital camera photos or play computer games.

Nowadays you have the option of either having a projection screen or simply using the wall to project the image on.

Setting up is easy and new projectors offer simpler solution. Normally your entertainment console consisting of all the various components such as DVD Player, Cable set top box and other AV components will be in front of the living room while the projector will be mounted at the back of the room. So how do you reconcile the difference in location for all these gizmos? You either had to move all the components back or simply lay cables from the various sources to the projector behind.

Now there’s all in one home theater with speakers and DVD player thrown in together in one unit. There’s no need to worry about cables snaking from one end of the room to the other, not to mention the headache of setting up the projector system.

Another alternative would be wireless projector allowing you to bring your projector from room to room without worrying about wires and cables.

Fire Department – Know How To Fireproof Your Data Center

October 17th, 2008

Of all the cool technology in a data center, there’s one system that no one ever wants to use or even have tested: the fire protection system. Of all the dangers to a bank of machines, smoke and flames rank right up there with flooding and natural disasters as a top concern for IT managers. Fortunately, there are ways to minimize the threat with careful planning and, especially, the right products.

Must-Haves
For those fortunate enough to be able to build a new data center, fire protection options abound. Thanks to the increased importance of technology and the subsequent higher profile for data centers, architects and builders are more aware that these centers have special issues. That’s led to the creation of more clean-agent fire suppression systems that use chemicals rather than water.

The systems work by breaking up the chemical reaction of fire. Each product employs this strategy in a slightly different way, but most target the oxygen that fire uses to spread. With no oxygen molecules, the fire essentially smothers, and equipment is safe because there’s no toxic residue or chemical damage with the tactic. Systems include Inergen, Sapphire, and ECARO-25.

When building a new center, planning on incorporating systems such as these is essential, says Peter Sacco, president of design firm PTS Data Center Solutions. “When you’re constructing a new center, you’re going to have to put in a different system than the rest of the building will have,” he notes. “Most likely, every other part of the building will have sprinklers, so an IT manager will have to be involved in the planning to make sure that’s not automatically put into the data center, as well.”

One of the newest fire suppression systems is aerosol-based, he adds, coming into the data center world from the space industry. These systems, such as Aero-K, either deliver an oxygen-snuffing aerosol gas or use aerosol to propel other types of gas that hang in the atmosphere and basically wrap a protective blanket around systems. Although these aerosol-based systems are only just starting to be introduced in new center construction, Sacco believes they should be more widespread within the next few years. (For more information on Aero-K, see the “The Coolest Thing: Aero-K” sidebar below.)

Buyer Beware
If a company is relocating or colocating its data center, fire protection should already be in place, but Sacco warns that there should be special care taken when signing the lease on a place that has Halon 1301 as its fire suppression system.

Halon is an odorless, colorless gas that extinguishes fire by tweaking the combustion process. It was embraced by places such as data centers, libraries, and art museums because it didn’t leave any residue. But in the late 1990s, Halon was found to be environmentally damaging, as well as potentially harmful to anyone doused by it?not a good situation for IT employees who might be in the data center when a fire breaks out in the building.

Although Halon was banned for new construction, it wasn’t outlawed, and refill tanks are still available for the systems that are still in place. That means if a data center manager is looking to colocate, and the facility in question was built before the mid-’90s, it’s possible that a Halon system is in place. Besides environmental and health concerns, it’s worth thinking about stripping the system or looking for another facility, Sacco notes, because Halon is frequently considered a poor alternative to a water-based system. For Halon to work, the room has to be airtight because the gas is heavier than air. That means any raised flooring or open vents could render the system less effective.

Data Center Makeovers
For companies that aren’t building a new data center but want to spiff up their existing facility, fire protection issues get more complicated. The replacement of one system with another isn’t just a discussion for the architect and the IT department head; rather, the local fire authorities also have to be involved. Sometimes a municipality won’t allow a nonsprinkler system to be put in place, no matter how effective it might have proven to be in other facilities.

“Unfortunately, systems have to conform to rules set up by the municipality where the data center is located,” says Sacco. “The fire inspector could approve a chemical-based system in new construction but not approve the capping of a wet sprinkler system in a remodel. That’s pretty common.”

In that case Sacco notes that data center managers should work with the architects to develop a preaction system, which holds water in check until it’s absolutely necessary. Such a system will fill the pipes with water but won’t release it until there’s a significant amount of heat in the room.

In general Sacco recommends that every data center, whether new or old, should have a multilayered system in place for fire protection. That includes having the latest fire suppression system but also doing periodic testing, assigning responsibility for system upkeep, and integrating the fire protection with other temperature controls.

Engineer-to-Order Manufacturers Profiled in August Tooling &

October 16th, 2008

The August issue of Tooling & Production highlights, “Leaning ETO Project Management.” The term engineer-to-order (ETO) denotes a style of manufacturing rather than a specific industry segment. Other synonymous terms are “project-based” or “custom” manufacturers. ETO companies typically have distinct characteristics about the way they conduct business that differentiate them from discrete or repetitive manufacturers.

According to Thomas R. Cutler, spokesperson for the ETO Institute, “ETO companies build unique products designed to customer specifications. Each product requires a unique set of item numbers, bills of material, and routings. Estimates and quotations are required to win business. Products are complex with long lead times, typically months or even years. Unlike standard products, the customer is heavily involved throughout the entire design and manufacturing process. Engineering changes are a way of life. Material is purchased not for inventory but for a specific project. All actual costs are allocated to a project and tracked against the original estimate. Once complete, the product is typically installed at the customer’s site. In most cases, aftermarket services continue throughout the life of the product.”

The ETO Institute (www.etoinstitute.org) is an independent organization committed to helping North American engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturers compete more effectively in an increasingly competitive global environment. Our resources section provides a list of articles and white papers focused on manufacturing and, in particular, engineer-to-order. The bulletin board provides a forum for organizations to share ideas and information and to discuss challenges and business issues.

What’s in a Smile?

October 15th, 2008

I have recently had to re-enter the job market after having taken a break while getting my degree. I am a little nervous because the occupation I am pursuing is in a public view more than any other job I have ever had. I am confident about my abilities but I am questioning the first impression I make because of something really trivial, my smile.

I have never liked my teeth because of an injury I sustained when I was a kid. I was running down a dirt path when I tripped over a rock and fell. Upon falling, I chipped the inside corners of my two front teeth. It wasn’t dramatic enough to have emergency dental restorations done, however it has definitely been one of the first things that people notice about me. It never bothered me when I was around friends or family but it has always made me feel uncomfortable when I am introduced to new people. Therefore, I did some research on-line and found some cool ideas.

I think if I found some marketing information that I was completely relaxed with and I had my smile corrected I would be able to focus on the interview instead of my smile.

The Last Reincarnation

October 15th, 2008

Excerpts from The Third Testament

How Many Times Man Do Reincarnate?

For some, the present existence will be their last reincarnation. It is time that you prepare the journey to the hereafter. Fill your granary with good seed, so that with a firm step, you will answer the call that I shall make in the spiritual valley that awaits you, and from which no one will escape.

A number of spirits have been assigned to each one of you, whom you must help elevate, guiding them along the path of My truth. No one will come without their lot, because he will not be received.

You must struggle and work. Rejoice yourselves, learning and teaching. I am fertilizing the lands, removing from them every bad seed, so that My sowers will find them prepared by My charity.

32. Then, a pathway along the desert will open before your eyes, offering you its oasis; and over there on the horizon, the white silhouette of the spiritual promised land, whose open doors will invite you to pass with your lots and with those people who will not only love the same God, but shall practice the same spiritual worship.

33. Convert, with your prayer, those beings in darkness who, like the armies, combat and struggle while you sleep. Be aware that all around you and above you an unknown world floats and agitates, and the light struggles against the darkness in a war whose tumult and influence upsets your world, your heart and your mind.

That is why tranquility and peace have also fled from the heart of mankind; but blessed is he who, feeling that battle, will pray, because he will come out ahead.

He who should take the judgment of this era as simple coincidence, does not know that he will be at the mercy of death, of pestilence, plagues and hunger.

Rest on firm ground; stop by the shade of this palm tree and hear My voice, so that you may be healed from all your ailments and recover your strength to continue along the journey.

Playing the Rush

October 14th, 2008

There’s nothing quite as thrilling in poker as getting on a really good string of cards and momentum, when you can’t seem to lose a pot. You start to build that swagger and maybe you open up your game a little bit and start winning pots that you normally wouldn’t have by applying your newfound gold to the table.

While it cane be dangerous to turn this kind of move into blind aggression, I just as often see people stepping out of the box too early. Players start to think they’ve won enough for the night and will step out of the game while they are still in the zone playing top notch, good mood poker. It can sometime be hard to get into that mode, and once you’re in it, if you are playing well and the table feels good, I don’t understand those players who want to get up and go elsewhere with their good will.

Texas Holdem primarily is a game of power. When you find yourself in the zone, at the table where everything is clicking, you should try to stay in that zone as long as possible. Wait until you see some kind of brake lights come on before you take yourself out.

At the same time, playing when you know you are out of leagues with yourself is something just as important to hone in on: save it for those better days, and ride the poker wave, play the rush.

What is ASP.NET?

October 13th, 2008

ASP.NET is not just the next version of ASP; it is the next era of web development. ASP.NET allows you to use a full featured programming language such as C# (pronounced C-Sharp) or VB.NET to build web applications easily.

————————– ASP.NET still renders HTML ————————– Unfortunately, the Internet still has bandwidth limitations and not every person is running the same web browser.

These issues make it necessary to stick with HTML as our mark-up language of choice. This means that web pages won’t look quite as amazing as a fully fledged application running under Windows, but with a bit of skill and creative flair, you can make some rather amazing web applications with ASP.NET.

ASP.NET processes all code on the server (in a similar way to a normal application). When the ASP.NET code has been processed, the server returns the resultant HTML to the client. If the client supports JavaScript, then the server will use it to make the clients browser experience quicker and easier. Even with HTML being the limiting factor here, ASP.NET still manages to bring true OOP (Object Oriented Programming) to the Internet.

————————– OOP on the Internet ————————– Object Oriented Programming makes it possible to build extremely large applications, while still keeping your code clean and structured. Now with ASP.NET, we can do the same on the web. Traditional ASP uses HTML and VBScript (or Jscript) to process and render pages, but because VBScript is a scripting language, you were forced to write spaghetti code (VBScript was entwined in the HTML and ended up rather messy in larger applications).

ASP.NET separates code from display, and you can even have pages with no ASP.NET code in them at all. By adding references in your HTML (called controls), you can tell ASP.NET that you want a button here, some text there, and then in your code, you can manipulate what these controls look like, what they display, how big they are, etc.

Controls can do more than just display information. You can add events to controls, so that when a visitor clicks on a button, for example, ASP.NET executes a function of your choice.

————————– Web Services ————————– One great feature of ASP.NET are Web Services. Web services mean that you can literally have several pieces of your application on different servers all around the world, and the entire application will work perfectly and seamlessly. Web services can even work with normal .NET Windows applications.

For example: A lot of people would like to have a stock ticker on their web site, but not many people want to manually type in all changes to the prices. If one company (a stock broker) creates a web service and updates the stock prices periodically, then all of those people wanting the prices can use this web service to log in, run a function which grabs the current price for a chosen company, and return it. Web services can be used for so many things: news, currency exchange, login verification.. the ways in which they can be used are limited to your imagination!

————————– Great XML Support ————————– ASP.NET makes it simple to use XML for data storage, configuration and manipulation. The tools which are built into ASP.NET for working with XML are very easy to use. XML is excellent for storing information that rarely changes, because you can just cache that information in the computers memory after it has been initially extracted.

————————– .NET is still in Beta development ————————– Microsoft is still working on the entire .NET framework, however you can still download the Beta 2 version (which works just fine… I’m yet to come across any major bugs) from the ASP.NET homepage. The final release of .NET is scheduled for February 18th, 2002.

————————– Complete Compatibility ————————– One of the most important goals of .NET was to allow developers to write an ASP.NET application using multiple programming languages. As long as each ASP.NET page contains only one programming language, you can mix and match different pages using different languages and they will work together seamlessly. This means you can now have a team of developers with half programming in C#, and the other half in VB.NET, with no need to worry about language incompatibilities, etc.

A cool little side-affect of all this is that all the programming languages look very similar, and differ only by their language syntax.

Take the following code snippets for example. They both do exactly the same thing but the first is written in C#, and the second in VB.NET.

The C# version: void Page_Load(Object S, EventArgs E) { myLabel.Text = “Hello world!!”;

The VB.NET version: Sub Page_Load(S As Object, E As EventArgs) myLabel.Text = "Hello world!!" End Sub

If you take either of the code examples shown above and add the following HTML to them, then they would both run perfectly inside of an ASP.NET page:

"Hello World" example!< itle> </head> <body> <asp:Label id="myLabel" runat="server" /> </body> </html></p> <p>-------------------------- Conclusion -------------------------- Unfortunately, because ASP.NET is new, there is not as much material on the web for it as there is for traditional ASP. The best place to start learning ASP.NET (if you have previous programming experience) is <a href="http://www.gotdotnet.com." rel="nofollow">http://www.gotdotnet.com.</a> As you start getting into ASP.NET, you will rely greatly on the MSDN library which includes the complete class library definitions amongst other things.</p> </div> <p class="keywords"></p> <p class="postmetadata">Posted in Uncategorized <strong>|</strong> <span>Comments Off</span></p> </div> <div class="post" id="post-95"> <h2><a href="http://www.versicash.com/archives/2008/10/13/steps-to-create-and-promote-rss-feeds/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to Steps to Create and Promote RSS Feeds">Steps to Create and Promote RSS Feeds</a></h2> <small>October 13th, 2008</small> <div class="entry"> <p>RSS, or Really Simple Syndication as it is commonly known, is a technology that gives webmasters the ability to easily distribute and publish syndicated content on the Internet. It seems like all Internet businesses now have RSS feeds available; at least your competitors do. You have finally made the decision that you have to have one. Where do you start?</p> <p>Steps to Creating an RSS feed</p> <p>1.) Build a Feed</p> <p>There are a number of desktop and web applications available that make feed creation easy. I would encourage anyone creating a feed to use one. Though not overly complicated, hand-coding an RSS feed can become a bit confusing and time-consuming. Most desktop software applications for building a feed include a wizard and contact-sensitive help, simplifying the process of creating a feed. Following a few simple steps in a wizard generally will produce an RSS feed in just a few minutes.</p> <p>Publishers control what information is syndicated in the RSS feed, so ultimately it is the publisher’s decision as to whether to include teaser copy or full articles. Consider what you are trying to accomplish and who your target audience is when building the feed.</p> <p>Software to Build a Feed – <a href="http://www.feedforall.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.feedforall.com</a> Tutorial for Creating Feed by Hand using XML – <a href="http://www.make-rss-feeds.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.make-rss-feeds.com</a></p> <p>2.) Transfer the Feed Onto Your Server</p> <p>Once you have constructed an RSS feed you will need to transfer the feed to your server. This can be done using a standard FTP client (if it is not built into the feed creation software). The feed is usually placed in the domain’s root directory like this: <a href="http://www.mydomain.com/nameoffeed.xml" rel="nofollow">http://www.mydomain.com/nameoffeed.xml</a> , but as long as you know where it is it doesn’t really matter.</p> <p>3.) Display the Feed on Your Website Using a Graphic of Some Sort</p> <p>In order to signal to website visitors that an RSS feed containing content related to the website is available, include a colorful graphic on the website. It has become a standard that nearly all websites that have RSS feeds available use colorful graphics such as flags as indicators that RSS feeds are available for specific content. The flags were initially bright orange rectangles but as the popularity has grown, webmasters have bent the rules a bit. NotePage has made a free online RSS graphic tool available that allows users to quickly customize buttons by selecting the text on the button and the color scheme of the button. Once the color and text is entered, a custom graphic is instantly created. Webmasters can easily match the style of the RSS button to a website’s theme. Graphics experience is not required. Simply select alternative colors and insert text to personalize RSS feed graphics. The RSS graphics tool can be used by clicking the following URL <a href="http://www.feedforall.com/public/rss-graphic-tool.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.feedforall.com/public/rss-graphic-tool.htm</a> or choose ready made graphics fom: <a href="http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-graphics.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.rss-specifications.com/rss-graphics.htm</a> .</p> </p> <p>4.) Include Information in the HTML of the Web Page So RSS Readers Auto-Detect Your Feed</p> <p>After publishing an RSS feed it is important to let visitors know that the feed exists. Aggregators will automatically detect RSS on a website if you add a small bit of code in the header field of an HTML page.</p> <p>[link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS" href="http://www.yourdomain.com/rss.xml"]</p> <p>Be sure to replace <a href="http://www.yourdomain.com/rss.xml" rel="nofollow">http://www.yourdomain.com/rss.xml</a> with the URL to the RSS feed and replace the brackets with “<" less than and ">” greater than symbols.</p> <p>5.) Display the Feed’s Content on a Website</p> <p>Contents contained in an RSS feed can be added to a website, providing site visitors an alternative method for viewing the content. The information will also help increase search engine interest. Displaying the feed as HTML can be accomplished. Providing fresh content on a regular basis will encourage site visitors return.</p> <p>Tutorial for Displaying Feeds – <a href="http://www.small-business-software.net/display-rss.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.small-business-software.net/display-rss.htm</a></p> <p>6.) Submit the Feed to RSS Directories and Search Engines</p> <p>As a rapidly increasing number of content sources, new and old, migrate or add RSS as a key distribution channel, and as more people utilize RSS newsreaders and aggregators to keep themselves informed, the ability to maintain high exposure and visibility is gradually shifted from complete attention to major search engines and content optimization techniques to an increasing awareness of RSS feed directories and search tools.</p> <p>In order to increase exposure of an RSS feed it should be submitted to RSS search engines and directories. This can be done manually. Just as you would submit the URL of a website or web page to a search engine you will need to submit the link of the actual feed located on your website to the RSS directories.
