High Speed Internet Providers – How Do You Choose?

August 29th, 2008

If you work at home using the internet or are frequently on the internet checking out websites, then you will want to look into service from a high speed internet provider. There are several ways to connect to the internet in order that you receive this quicker service. You can look into DSL which is at least 5 times faster than dial up and runs through the phone line. Cable and satellite internet access are the other choices. After you choose which connection you are interested in, then you need to find the high speed internet provider that offers that particular service.

DSL is a great option for people who live close to the central office where the DSL comes from. DSL is distance sensitive, which means that you need to be within three miles of the office of your high speed internet provider to receive the best connection. The best way to find out about DSL is to ask neighbors if they use it and if the do, ask if they are satisfied with it. DSL is always on, so you do not have to wait for it to connect to the internet. With better speed than the dial up method, this may be the right choice for you.

Cable internet runs through your cable line and has amazing speed. Downloading is quick and easy and it is always on for your convenience. The only drawback to cable internet may be the high cost that these high speed internet providers charge. There may be package deals with your cable TV service or a reduced priced if you accept a slower access speed, so ask if there are any discounts that are available. Cable internet is a wonderful option for those users who are on the internet several times a day.

Satellite internet may be the only option for consumers in rural and out of the way areas. Satellite internet uses satellites in outer space for internet connection. This is a faster option than dial up, but may be dependent upon the weather, although most consumers only have problems during major storms. Ask neighbors about their internet service and if they use satellite internet service. This is the best way to find out which high speed internet provider will work for you.

High speed internet providers fill a vital need for internet users. The important thing to do is to research the provider group of your choice until you find a high speed internet provider that offers what you need for you and your family. Once you do this, then you sure to find the high speed internet service that is right for you!

The Inland Empire Hit Hard by Economic Crisis

August 25th, 2008

The housing market in the Inland Empire has gone to an all time low and is said that it’s still going to get worse. It looks like the IE can’t get any breaks. Crashing housing market, rampant bro culture, ghetto fools, no progressive economic thinking, and worst of all, the Santa Ana’s that come howling from hell every year. This must be one of the circles of hell that Dante wrote about.

Business in the Inland Empire has also slowed down and seemed to become stagnant. It takes one look around and you can see that businesses are trying to survive the economic low. You drive out of the city and end up in suburban neighborhoods. These neighborhoods are littered with foreclosed signs on doorways and for sale signs on lawns. It’s a sad site to see when you have a number of brown grass homes right next to homes that seemed to weathered the economic storm. These are the sites that someone would see if they came to the Inland Empire.

With these sad times and economic low there are some businesses that seemed to stay afloat and pushed through the waves. One business in particular has made a name for them selves in the web design world. This Redlands web design company created their own niche in these troubling times.

Online MDs- Why To Get Your Practice On The Web

August 24th, 2008

Doctors across the United States and around the world are making use of the latest technology and the convenience of the internet in a variety of ways. Whether it’s better patient care or making their presence known in their communities, medical professionals have come to depend on web sites, web hosting, and databases. It is no longer a luxury, but fast becoming par for the course.

Better Patient Care

The internet is often used for transfer of all types of medical data. Particularly with respect to radiology, the technology now exists to transmit CAT or PET scan images over the web for analysis by physicians in remote locations, or to transfer patient information quickly whether it’s across the country or around the world.

Unfortunately, this technology is seeing limited use and usually only in affiliation with larger, teaching medical centers. Transfer of individual patient information is constrained by the HIPPA regulations to the point that signatures are required for exchange of that type of data and tend to be transmitted in paper form or by fax. While some medical facilities maintain advanced databases for patient records, the information contained in them remains closely held.

Maintaining a database of patient records will make filing simpler for employees, free up office space that was once dedicated filing cabinets, allow for fewer mistakes on charts and quicker and more accurate retrieval and transfer by any medium.

Community Medical Listings

The most likely place to find a physician’s name, specialty and location on the web is through the regional online service listings. There are probably half a dozen ‘yellow page’ ecommerce type services in most major metropolitan areas that have medical listings.

Additionally, there are the ‘city search’ type web hosted services that provide local information on entertainment, restaurants and local attractions – and will also provide legal and medical listings. There are dedicated listing services such as yourmd.com that are more comprehensive, providing specialty information and an area for the physician to provide comments on treatment focus and philosophy, but provide only a basic phone number and address listing. A small monthly fee is charged.

Personal Medical Websites

If a physician chooses to utilize online listing services, it would be of substantial value if those listings included a clickable web address for the individual doctor or practice. Any medical practice or professional listed online should consider establishing its own hosted web site, so that the browsing consumer can click to a dedicated page introducing the doctor(s) and the practice specialties. Post professional information: where you were educated, hospitals you have worked at, and information about your specialty. Allow potential new patients to contact through your website with an online form or contact link for email. Post a picture, your address, phone number, and hours. List all your services and what insurances you accept. Give as much information as possible.

Educate Your Current Patients And Attract New Ones

There are a couple of specialties that have recognized the value of using online presentation of information. One is sports medicine: many clinics for sports-related injuries have web sites that discuss rehabilitation philosophy as well as surgical options and the clinical backgrounds of the staff.

Another is pediatrics: a field where many group practices have established websites in order to create an introductory environment designed to put the browsing parent at ease. Brief biographies of the doctors in the practice may be found there, along with any specialties that apply.

Physicians that have established their own hosted web sites will often use them to provide basic information on common afflictions and links to more comprehensive sites about the diseases. Provision of this sort of information is often done with literature and usually with the physician walking the patient through it. For that sort of patient care, a hosted website can be a timesaver for the doctor. “Look it up on my website and call if you have questions” can be a timely and convenient closer for an office visit.

Thorough Patient Care

A doctor’s personal website can provide alternative contacts and telephone numbers for weekend or off-hour care. It can route calls to information nurses or other personnel on staff; providing a service that otherwise is simply another phone message for the doctor to return. It can also provide an email link for inquiries about appointment times – a worthwhile service for an office with phone lines that are often busy. In the medical field, a hosted website dedicated to a single doctor or practice is more an introduction and information source than an advertising vehicle. If designed and utilized properly, a personal medical website can be an efficient and useful tool in the practice of medicine.

When “Wimpy” Makes Your List Of Power Words

August 23rd, 2008

You may not think of “wimpy” as a potential entry on your list of power words. Think again. The fact is, there are literally hundreds (thousands) of words that can pack a punch – and that’s an important step in your attempt to gain and hold the attention of potential customers. Consider what makes a power word, and how to use them.

Have you ever seen a child fall asleep in the high chair, face in the plate? That’s a power nap. If you describe how tired that child was, the word “sleepy” simply won’t suffice. You may be tempted to go first to that good old stand-by – “very.” But “very sleepy” also doesn’t get the message across. “Exhausted” becomes a power word in this case, because most readers will be able to visualize that “exhausted” child who is now peacefully snoring in her spaghetti.

Drop those words like “very” and find some words with real punch. “Incredible,” “humongous” and “tremendous” become your best friends.

While your copy needs power words that vividly describe, you also have to pay attention not to overuse those words. With too many of these descriptive power words, your reader may lose interest and simply move on.

Power words are not all about description. You may find that some power words are not descriptive at all. “Now” is a power word that’s often under utilized. One of the reliable techniques used in selling is to appeal to the reader’s sense of urgency. You can do that by using words that bring that urgency to the forefront of the reader’s mind – words like “quick,” “fast” and “urgent.”

But what if you’re selling a product that’s only going to pay off over the long term? Weight loss products are a good example. Everyone knows that purchasing the latest weight loss aid – whether it’s exercise equipment or diet supplements – isn’t going to result in pounds that fall off even as you’re standing up from your computer. But your copywriting should urge the reader to start “now.” Remind him that the product can’t help unless he takes that first step – and that he should take that step “now.”

There are lots of other power words that simply jump off the page to bring the reader in. Words like “free,” “special offer,” “sale,” and “discount” immediately conjure imagines of saving money. “Profitable,” “informative” and “valuable” make you certain that this is a purchase that will be beneficial.

One of the most important power words available has only three letters and its value is often overlooked. It’s y-o-u. When the word “you” appears in text, the message becomes personal, the potential more real.

One common mistake in the use of power words is the use of words that aren’t commonly known and understood. Instead of looking for an incredible new word, try stringing together common words to effectively present the idea to your reader.

Sprinkle your copywriting with power words and watch your sales skyrocket!

Don’t be a wimp! Use powerful descriptive “picture words” in your copy. Wimpy headlines and sales copy will result in wimpy sales!

That Cookie Might Kill You!

August 22nd, 2008

Chances are you may have had a food product that contained Trans Fatty Acids. What’s the danger you ask? I ‘m about to share with you just a little of the hidden dangers and certain death that some of the most popular foods you eat can cause.

Do you eat foods such as, vegetable shortenings, margarine, crackers, candies, cookies, snack foods, fried foods, baked goods, and other processed foods made with Trans Fatty Acids with are hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils? Well if you do you are putting yourself and your family at risk for very serious diseases like Alzheimer’s, Coronary Heart Disease and Type 2 Diabetes!

What are Trans Fatty Acids?
These are hydrogenated oils that are created by fusing gas and oils together with what’s called a metal catalyst. The catalyst is made of, nickel, aluminum or cobalt. The oils and hydrogen are fused together in temperatures reaching over 400 degrees, thereby changing the molecular structure of the oil.

Keep in mind that the metals that are used in the process of hydrogenation arehighly toxic to your body with prolong use, which to me is bad enough, but the real culprit is the fact that the hydrogenated oils are “altered” and “unnatural” so your body cannot eliminate them naturally. Aluminum by itself has been shown to cause Cancer and Alzheimer’s disease!

Kraft Foods, whom by the way is owned by Phillip Morris (the tobacco company) manufacturers everything from cheese to nutritional bars admits on their official website that and I quote “Consuming Trans Fatty Acids is directly linked to Coronary Heart Disease.” They also say that the use of TFA (hydrogenated oils) improve the “texture” and “freshness” of certain products.

The fact is that companies use these oils because the cost is cheaper, the oil does not go rancid and quickly and they get more volume from the hydrogenation process thereby allowing them to sell more of it!
Did you know this??

The FDA states that food manufacturers can list their products as, 0 Trans Fat on their labels if the amount of Trans Fat is less than (0.5 grams) per serving.

Now how many of you eat The Suggested Serving Size that’s on the packaging?????

The New England Journal of Medicine — June 24, 1999 — Vol. 340, No. 25, states,” product labeling is not enough because fast foods contain high amounts of trans fatty acids and are exempt from labeling regulation”. They also state, “Changing the use of hydrogenated oils to un-hydrogenated oils would substantially reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.”

So with all this knowledge, what are your alternatives? Mono or polyunsaturated fats that are found in Olive and Peanut oils are the best oils to use. These oils do not clog your arteries but you should still use them in moderation. Please stay away from anything pre packaged and don’t fry your foods, bake them instead. Start cooking “real foods” again!

In closing, please take care of yourself. Do not think because you may be young, physically active or even “vegetarian” that you cannot fall victim to the deathly additives in food products today. Read labels! With every meal you consume, you are either poisoning or your nourishing your body!

Salkis Re is a cosmetologist licensed in both New York and Georgia and a member of the American Cancer Society Look Good Feel Better program. She started her crusade to uncover the dangers of foods after the death of her own father to the disease of diabetes.

Online Women Entrepreneurs Need To Pace Themselves

August 20th, 2008

Saving time means pacing yourself, being organized, and always prioritizing your duties, responsibilities and efforts.

Pacing yourself means allowing time for unexpected situations, such as having enough time to check the ever-growing inbox, setting-up special autoresponders for automatic responses (a miraculous tool…really), and other technical issues of running an interactive website and blog.

One great thing I trained myself to do was to check my inbox a couple times a day. I also do not keep my inbox open the whole time I’m online, which forced to check it every minute. I check it in the beginning, reply, write new emails, and close it, project #1 done.

I even write a list who I’m supposed to email and why to keep me focused. This way I’m not trapped into reading and writing social emails.

As part of networking, you have to make your regular appearance, post some replies, add a new one, then leave, project #2 done. No time for chatting.

By being personable in your posts, people feel your personal touch. You don’t have to instant message on the message boards, just to be personal.

Another thing about pacing yourself is acceptance. Know your limitations, and accept that whatever you accomplish within a certain perscribed timeframe IS worth a pat on your back.

A huge time-pacer for me comes mostly from my physical & neurological limitations (due to my car accident), and family committements. I actually said I will NOT hop online when the girls are awake. If there’s a quiet hour or naptime time, I will.

The online-bug nags at me from time to time, but it’s just the 3-day hump you need to work through. Once you get over it, you’re all set.

Quality not quantity, my dears :-)

My point is: Pace yourself for your health, family and ultimately your business.

Now, be proud and close project #99–the computer.

Why Positive Thinking Doesn’t Work!

August 18th, 2008

There was someone I used to work with who, well aware
of their tendency to look at the negative side of things,
used to constantly tell themselves to “think more
positively”.

This was said with such a feeling of desperation that I just
knew that not only would they NOT think positively, they
would probably go even further into negative thinking. The
mere fact that they kept pushing themselves to “think
positively”
was a sign that this would ultimately be
counterproductive.

So many of us have interpreted the desire to be positive
thinkers in a very narrow and ultimately ineffective way.
The push to be positive often results in ignoring our
true feelings. Instead of recognizing that we don’t always
feel positive and learning how to convert and turn round our
feelings, it so often ends up with us denying them
altogether.

The Law of Attraction, as defined by Abraham Hicks states
that “you attract to yourself what you give your attention
and energy to, whether wanted or unwanted”.

One reason why positive thinking doesn’t work is that our
focus is in the wrong place. So we say “I don’t want to be
ill” and believe that this thought will prevent us from
being ill. So where is our focus? On being ill!
Because the Universe doesn’t recognize “not” or “don’t”.
How many times have you told yourself NOT to forget
something and then what happens? Oops you’ve forgotten it!

Another reason why positive thinking doesn’t work is that we
often veil our negative feelings with a positive surface.
So we say “I want a loving relationship“. Sounds good
right? Except that underneath there is the hidden message
that having a loving relationship wouldn’t even be an issue
- unless you’d been in one or a series of not so loving
relationships.

So it’s the hidden message and negative feeling around it,
that is still coming through. Ultimately, you’re still
pushing against something and it’s still
counterproductive. You’re likely to attract more unloving
relationships, even though you THINK you’ve stated
otherwise.

How can you begin to reverse this? Rather than focusing on
your thoughts, focus on your feelings about a given
situation or what you would like the situation to be. Start
to visualise and sense what you truly desire. Focus on
ramping up good, positive, energetic feelings about what
you desire, rather than the thought.

Practically you can do this by building a “creation box” of
pictures, ideas, notes, to stimulate your imagination of how
you’d like things to be. Appreciating lifes abundance in
what you already have by keeping an appreciation journal,
feeling and acting like the prosperous person you actually
are and channelling your good feelings into what you desire.

In fact, instead of being a positive thinker, aim to become
a positive feeler – it’s much more visceral and real. Live
your life as though you already have what you desire and
you’ll make way for it to come to you.
